Clippers front office ask Clipper Darrell to drop nickname.
Los Angeles Clippers recently ask Darrell Bailey who is ‘Clipper Darrell’ to drop his nickname. I’ve been a Clippers fan my whole life and it hurts to hear an organization ask someone whose been a lifetime fan to stop being himself. Clipper Darrell has supported the team through thick and thin. Now the team is winning and the Clippers organization wants him to just stop because he’s benefiting from the team success.
According to Clipper Darrell, Clippers offered him an extra season ticket for him to drop his name. Supposedly, Clipper Darrell is making money of the Clippers name without the Clippers permission. The crazy thing is he’s been doing this for years. He speaks at different high schools and different charity events. At every event Darrell attends he represents the Clipper name with the utmost respect. Below is the Letter he wrote to his fans via clipperdarrell.com:
I AM DEVASTATED!!!
It is with great sadness that I must report to all those in NBA NATION that I have been told by Clipper management they no longer want me to be Clipper Darrell, a name that was given to me by the media because of my unwavering support and team spirit. I am devastated!!!!
I have been a season ticket holder for over a decade and a FAN for over 15 years and have dedicated a major part of my life to support the Clipper organization and it’s players no matter what the season’s outcome. Over the years (400 home games) I have gone to great lengths to show my appreciation and loyalty in my attire, the car I drive and in my very own home. I’ve taken seriously the mantra of being “Clipper Darrell” in performing community service, mentoring young children and my participation in outreach programs. I’ve appreciated the struggles of the team to overcome obstacles as I’ve done in my life. I felt vindicated for all the years we as Clipper fans have gone through trials and tribulations and NOW we have a team that can win it all. Yesterday was the hardest day of my life, I felt powerless as a fan, as I was stripped of my identity however, no one can take away my heart and the love I have for my team!
Clippers Team Members Speak Up:
@deandrejordan I love Clipper Darrell….#ClipperDarrell
@blakegriffin Bring back #ClipperDarrell
Clippers Organization Responds
“We hold all of our fans in the highest esteem and we have been patient and generous with Mr. Bailey. He has not returned our support in an honorable way. He is not actually a fan of the Clippers, but a fan of what he can make off of the Clippers. We are no longer interested in that kind of association with him, and that is why we accepted his offer to remove our team name from his stage name.”
Final Thought
I guess the Clippers tried to work with Darrell but he never budged which can bring reasons to separate the teams name from his name. Anybody who knows anything about Clipper Darrell knows he is one of the most loyal fans they have ever seen or met. His whole life is about with representing the Clippers for free. Now he has to stop and go back being Darrell Bailey which won’t be that hard for him. At the end of the day, Darrell Bailey will always be ‘Clipper Darrell’ to me.
Are mixed martial arts dangerous?
by Charles Dickson (SYRACUSE)- Mixed Martial Arts or MMA is one of America’s fastest growing sports. However, the State of New York is constantly debating wheather to keep the sport banned. MMA has been illegal in New York since 1997 just days before UFC 12 was going to take place in Niagara Falls.
Most MMA professional fighters Marc Gervais, a MMA trainer Pin2Win in Phoneix, NY, says the sport has made major changes since it was bad banned was set 1997.
“I think there was a time when the sport probably was a little too dangerous, when it was the old style when they didn’t use the correct protective equipment, there wasn’t unified rules,” saidGervais. “But now there’s unified rules for the sport, there’s proper protective equipment to keep these guys safe.”
Constant movement
MMA is growing fast and many young adults who wrestled in high school or college are starting to make the transition to MMA. The only thing holding them up from stepping into “The Octagon” is the traveling they have to do to get real MMA experience. James Chaplin, a seasoned wrestler, is making the transition but he doesn’t get to fight in front of a home crowd.
“A lot of my friends are like hey James when are you fighting and I tell them guys you will have to travel to see me fight,” said Chaplin. “So they (friends) are kind of upset about that and so am I.”
Money, money, money
MMA is becoming a billion dollar industry by expanding to video games and tv shows like MTVs “Caged”. One of the biggest moves MMA/UFC has made was signing a multi million dollar, seven to eight year deal with FOX Sports. Revenues for the sport are growing and UFC officials estimate that if two of their fights were held in New York, they would generate $16 million in revenues.
Gene Mills ,PIN 2 WIN co-owner, agrees with the UFC and doesn’t understand why state Lawmakers wont life the ban.
“I don’t know what is holding them up I think it’s kind of ridiculous,” said Mills. ”I think it would be a phenomenal revenue stream for the state of New York to allow it.”

Can Jeremy Lin play with Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire when they get back?
During my internship at KABC-TV in Los Angeles, I got to cover the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers. Here is a Live Shot I did after the Lakers beat Rockets.
